J. C. "Jake" Hicks

November 5, 1931 - November 28, 2018


J. C. "Jake" Hicks was born November 5, 1931, in Broken Bow, OK to Wallace Taylor and Mary Gatha (Morgan) Hicks. He passed away on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at his home in Lookeba, OK, at the age of 87. Jake grew up in the Broken Bow area. He graduated from Broken Bow High School. Jake married Mildred Marie Green on June 23, 1951 in their hometown. Soon after they were wed, the couple moved to Tulsa, OK. Jake worked for Carnation Dairy in Tulsa, and a fellow employee invited Jake and his family to church at the Lawnwood Freewill Baptist Church. Jake became a Christian while attending there in 1961. It was soon after that Jake moved his family to OKC. He worked full time and began attending Hillsdale Freewill Baptist Bible College in the evenings. He surrendered to the call to preach during his time there. In the Spring of 1964, Jake began pastoring The Lone Grove Freewill Baptist Church in Lone Grove, OK. From there he was called to The Sickles Community Church, Lookeba, OK. He served as Sickles' pastor from 1969-1983. After retirement, he worked for Caddo County for many years. In 1984 he began pastoring The Congregational Church in Binger, OK, which lasted 30 years. Jake loved hunting and woodworking. He loved the outdoors and his family.

Survivors include: 2 daughters, Carla Hicks and Kim Fulton, both of Lookeba, OK, grandson, Trea Fulton and his wife Teresa of Blair, OK, 5 great grandchildren, Bryson Jake Fulton of Blair, OK, Brealyn Kasidee Fulton of Elk City, OK, Sierra Miller, Weslee Miller and Addi Miller of Blair, OK, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of special friends.

Jake was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Hicks, parents, Wallace and Gatha Hicks, and 5 siblings, Chester Hicks, Betty McGovern, Otis Hicks, Patsy Phillips, and Reggie Hicks.
