Lonnie Oakes was born August 3, 1933 in Ada, Oklahoma to Lonnie Lee Oakes, Sr. and Lucille (Brown) Oakes. He passed away Saturday, February 17, 2017 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of 84. Lonnie grew up in Midwest City where he graduated from Midwest City High School. Following graduation he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He proudly served his country for 3 years during the Korean Conflict. He returned to Oklahoma and attended Oklahoma State A&M on the GI Bill. Lonnie graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Business Accounting. He worked in accounting for Cato Oil and Grease and then took a job with Bunte Candy Company. Lonnie married Joy Reynolds on March 30, 1961 in Del City, Oklahoma. The couple embarked on a new adventure in the plastic manufacturing industry which lasted 40 years until their retirement. Lonnie loved flowers and keeping his yard manicured well. Lonnie was an avid sports fan. He was also an avid grandson fan. He devoted his life to supporting his grandsons in each and every activity they participated in. His wife, two daughters, and five grandsons meant the world to him.
Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie Oakes, Sr. and Lucille Oakes.
Survivors include: wife, Joy Oakes of the home in Oklahoma City, OK, 2 daughters, Kim Wright and husband Ronnie of Hinton, OK, and Julie Matthews of Oklahoma City, OK, 5 grandsons, Seth Wright, Micah Wright, Matthew Morrow, Jonathan Matthews and Dane Matthews, 2 sisters, Joan Ailene Rutter of Broken Arrow, OK and Jeanette Norman of Enid, OK as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
