Jo Ross

July 4, 1935 - February 11, 2018


Jo Ross was born July 4, 1935 to Alonzo and Minnie (Woods) Courtney in Cogar, OK. She passed away Sunday, February 11, 2018 at her daughters home in Eufaula at the age of 82. Jo grew up in Sickles and moved to Hinton at the age of 9. Jo was united in marriage to Alva D. Abbott June 30, 1951 in Anadarko, OK and he preceded her in death May 31, 1988 in Oklahoma City. They lived in Oklahoma City, moved to Newcastle in 1971 and later moved back to the Hinton area. Jo later married Alvin "Dub" Ross February 18, 1989 in Norman, OK and he preceded her in death September 28, 2003 in Hinton. Jo played softball until she was 50 years old. She enjoyed coaching and watching her grandkids play ball, fishing and camping at Ft. Cobb Lake and together at Red Rock Canyon State Park, roller skating, riding horses and bicycles. Jo was Leader of the Girl Scouts, Bluebirds, and Brownies, was a member of PTA where she served as President for 10 years, and was a member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church where she was actively involved for many years. Jo moved to the Eufaula Lake area in 2017 to be closer to her kids and grandkids.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Alva Abbott and Alvin "Dub" Ross, siblings, Butch, Paul, an Bill Courtney, and Ozella Moffitt.

Jo is survived by her two children, Danny Abbott and wife Sandra of Newcastle, OK and Cindy Closson and husband Tracy of Eufaula; three step-sons, Lloyd Ross, Dale Ross and his wife Renee, and Danny Ross and his wife Pat; grandchildren, Michael Cook and wife Melissa of Texarkana, AR, Chad Cook and wife Trey of Searcy, AR, Joshua Abbott and wife Sara of Rush Springs, OK, Jason Abbott and wife Heather of Tuttle, OK, and Jared Abbott of Oklahoma City; great-grandchildren, Tanner, Garrett, Kennedy Ann, Jayden, Taylor, McKenzie, Wyatt and Tatum; siblings, Margie Folsom and husband Wendell Cordell, OK, Donald Courtney and wife Carol Kingston, OK, and Albert Courtney and wife Chris of Norman, OK; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and dear friends.


Jo's family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 4-6PM at Turner Funeral Home, Hinton, OK.

Services: Pentecostal Holiness Church, Wednesday, 10:00 am, Feb. 14, 2017, Hinton, OK

Officiating: Rev. Daniel Manning and Rev. Josh Abbott
