May 1, 1923 - January 19, 2017
William James Buell was born on May 1, 1923 in Yakima, WA to Charles Ensign and Edna Dessie (New) Buell. He passed away on January 19, 2017 at the age of 93 in Yukon, OK.
At the age of 6 years (on his first day of school) William was involved in an automobile accident that injured his jaws and resulted in a long stay in Children’s Hospital and multiple surgeries which William numbered at 30. It was important to him that people know the cause of the accident was a Dodge car. This occurrence permanently altered both his appearance and his ability to eat. Though William was born in Washington his family lived in the Oklahoma City area during his early years. They later moved to a farmstead West of Hinton where they grew peanuts, cotton, cattle and a large garden. In the late 20s William and his family worked together to development a mechanical cotton harvester. The machine they produced was successful to the point of an application for a patient. They used the machine for several years in the harvest of their own crops but it was never mass produced. William had no professional interests outside of farming and maintained an active role in the operation of the family homestead until his death. William was active in his rural community. As a youth he was active in the Bethel Church and later attended Cedar Valley Baptist Church near his home.
William is survived by several nieces and nephews, other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia, his parents, Charles and Edna Buell, his sisters, Evelyn Dessie (Billie) Sandlin, and Edna Vivian Teague, his brother, Charles Buell, Jr.
