Richard M. Thrasher was born on April 8, 1947 in Watonga, OK to Maurice and Cleo (Smith) Thrasher. He passed away on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 in Las Vegas, NV at the age of 71. Richard graduated from Watonga High School. He served in the US Marine Corps from October 1966- October 1972. His service during the Vietnam War: September 1967- October 1970; Khe Sanh Tet 1968 26th Marine Regiment; Danang 1969-1970 1st Recon Battalion as a radio operator- communication specialist. After his service, he attended Southwestern University in Weatherford, OK. He lived most of his life in the Watonga area. He married Karen Moon on April 16, 1983 in Greenfield, OK. He owned and operated R&K Tax Service in Watonga from 1984-1995; Karen joined the business in 1995 and they both retired in 2016. Richard and Karen did everything together; loved visiting, OU Football, RVing, listening to music, traveling, cruising, an avid motorcycle rider, watching western movies and enjoyed being with people. He was a member of the VFW, the Disabled American Veterans, and a member of the Watonga Christian Church where he served as Deacon and treasurer. He volunteered to be a Reserve County Sheriff Deputy for four years.
Survivors include: his wife, Karen Thrasher of Yukon, OK, his sister, Mable Rice and husband Warren of Watonga, OK, his uncles, Bob Thrasher of Alexandria, LA, and Homer Paul Thrasher of Mountain Grove, MO, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice and Cleo Thrasher, and 3 sisters, Juanita Oler, Colleen Wooldridge, and Carolyn Etherton.
